about

"Whatchu doing with you time? And what it's doing to your mind?"

The intro words spoken incant the question that drives Phantom Vibrations: how are the phones we grip in our hands gripping our consciousness and transforming humankind? The song is an exploration of the various ways and means we're sucked into screens, the psychological and physiological effects of a plugged-in life, the consideration of devices as vices and the social control exerted by big tech. All of this over a pulsating bass line, a psychedelic melody with electro reggae bounce, a hypnotic refrain and a vibey delivery rich in provocative lyrics, balanced by a tempered flow deep in the pocket, steady buzzing, not unlike the phone that inspired it... The music video is a psychedelic narrative equal parts Blade Runner, arthouse film and suspense rap video, complete with a climatic reveal.

PHANTOM VIBRATIONS

Whatchu doing with your time and what it's doing to your mind?

It's devious times unleashed by dangerous minds
A teacher's pay is a con a con is running full time
These some uncomfortable times where comforts always right by
In many forms of technological or medical kinds
Diabetics in a line every line simple syrup for the refined
It's hard to see the Spirit in the sky
When your eyes are always squinting at a screen of some size
And your thumb is sore from clicking info from your thumb drive
Conversations turned to chat and chatting leave your tongue tied
So you retire to your palace draw the bridge then unwind
Ah ah unplugged from the world
Then you flip the apple tv on the flat screen and unfurl
Open up an app and make sure that you text back
Anyone you missed while working from the office's Mac
4 synced products a spliff and some libations
Could chill if my leg didn't get phantom vibrations

Carpal tunnel Stockholm
Writer's block and block woes
Agoraphobic folks who cannot bear to leave their locked homes
The tetris effect the stress around tests
The tekken addictions the systems automatic as grand theft
The video games the scriptures the fame the Christians
The rain the krishnas the chains the 9/11 commissioni
High obsession positions with making decisions
The living to make a living instead of living to make a difference
Tricked into fake admissions
Adopting made up wisdom
Concocting lazy visions
Vintage filter every image
A montage a selfies from montuak with South Beach
To Chelsea with Chelsea to rock the bells with El P
Celebrity culture telemetry pulsing
Bandwith be bulging while bands be rubbish and bantering about nothing
My jimmy leg jittering keeping my lady awake and
I blame it all on these constant phantom vibrations

Remedial minds in need of leaders who rhyme
I don't mean rapping on beats I just mean speaking in time
Instead of deepening the bind between money and mankind
Need more Monet in my life need more Pele in the vibe
Less cocaine in the news and more Cobain on the radio
Seven steps to nirvana denominate like a ratio
Need a week in Arcadia National Park or maybe
Just a long walk with my lady saying nothing and gazing
We all staying crazy in touch always plugged in and such
Always seeking a charge always stuck on the bus
Or maybe stuck in a rut waiting to get a like
Everyone's a DJ with a wonderful life
It's such a lovely day I think will ride my bike
Maybe check out the park manhattan bridge by the night
Barely missed the cops dodged a citation
Now I gotta vie with these phantom vibrations
